From
September through May, ASFC holds Chapter Meetings on the fourth
Tuesday of each month featuring fascinating guest and member speakers
and programs. We meet at SciWorks on West Hanes Mill Road. Social
half-hour begins at 7:00 p.m. and the business meeting/program begins
at 7:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome, so please, come join us!

John Gerwin, NC Museum of Natural Sciences
Topic: "Flooding,
Philandering, and Philopatry: Twelve Years with a Population of
Swainson's Warblers"
John Gerwin
has worked at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences for 21 years and
is currently the Curator of Birds. He oversees the bird collections
and assists with pubic programs, exhibits, and ecotour trips.
John is currently
working on several research projects including breeding biology
of NC's yellow-bellied sapsuckers, multiple projects with Painted
Buntings, a joint study of black-capped petrel breeding biology,
in Haiti, and a taxonomic and genetic study of sapsuckers and black-throated
green warblers.
John also coordinates
NC surveys for a SE regionwide survey project of Painted Bunting.
Additionally, he helps oversee a telemetry project on Kiawah Island
and helps coordinate large-scale banding project in NC/SC for the
Painted Bunting.
And every other
year, John co-leads a group from Guilford College to Nicaragua!
We are fortunate to hear about his study of Swainson's Warblers.
