Each May,
the Audubon Society of Forsyth County participates in a Spring
Bird Count. We combine a fun day of birding with our primary fund-raising
activity, Birdathon! To learn more about Birdathon! 2005, click

What is
the bird count? Basically our bird count is a census of the
bird populations in specific areas within a fifteen mile radius
circle in Forsyth County. Teams of birders survey the birds they
see and hear - identifying species and counting the number of
individuals. Information from each team is compiled into a single
report.
Where does
the count take place? There are nine areas/teams in Forsyth
County that are based at the following locations:
- Water Treatment Plants (Archie Elledge and Cooper Road)
- Tanglewood
- Lewisville
- Clemmons
- Salem Lake
- Downtown Winston-Salem
- Reynolda Gardens
- North (SciWorks and Landfill area)
- Bethabara Park
- Muddy Creek and Northwest
Can I count,
too? Sure! The more the merrier! Whether you are an experienced
birder or a beginner, the Spring Bird Count wants you! You will
be placed on a team with an experienced birder as a team leader.

The Count
Dinner. After a fun day of birding, the Count Dinner is an
opportunity to get together with the other counters and enjoy
swapping tales and finding out where different bird species were
seen during the course of the day. This year, the dinner will
be held at 6:00 pm at Mayberry's Restaurant on Country
Club Road located in the Vineyard Plaza Shopping Center next
to Food Lion. No need to preregister for the dinner - each person
pays his/her own bill.
