Spring Bird Count

On Saturday May 7, 2011, Audubon Society of Forsyth County will conduct its annual Spring Count and Birdathon. Each year, our Spring Bird Count helps determine the overall health of the bird species that we all love and enjoy watching. As you know, bird populations also are good indicators of our community's environmental health.

As part of our Spring Count, Birdathon raises money for local and state Audubon programs. Half of the money raised is used locally for conservation projects and the remainder supports Audubon North Carolina's Coastal Sanctuaries program, a globally significant habitat on the N C coast. Locally, the chapter has planted native shrubs and removed non-native invasive plants at the Bethania's Walnut Bottom Preserve as part of our commitment to develop and maintain the town's beautiful conservation areas along Muddy Creek. We also are working with Tanglewood Park to grow native warm season grasses near the wetlands and with Historic Bethabara Park, performing quarterly cleanups, removing Sacred Lotus at the wetland, planting live statkes along Monarcas Creek and mapping invasive plants for future removal.

Meet the $100 Challenge

Please help the Audubon Society of Forsyth County (ASFC) continue its education and conservation efforts by contributing to our Birdathon. You can send a specific amount (no amount is too small) or pledge an amount per species identified during Birdathon (we generally spot 110 - 130 species). Any contribution you make is tax-deductible. Urge your friends and neighbords to help, too. Can you bring in $100 worth of pledges?
