Winter Field Trip - Outer Banks and Pine Island Audubon Sanctuary
Itinerary includes Audubon's Pine Island Sanctuary in Corolla, Pea Island NWR, and a guided tour of Lake Mattamuskeet and Pocosin NWR. Accommodations: Pine Island Lodge or Hampton Inn in Corolla. See details on our Field Trips page.

Meet at 9:00 a.m. at the daycare center parking lot at the intersection of Reynolda and Bethabara Park Rds. Wear sturdy shoes. Bring gloves, trash bags and binoculars.

Historic Bethabara Visitor Center
Topic: "Behavior and Movements of Egrets"
Guest Speaker: Dr. John Brzorad, Director, Reese Institute for Conservation of Natural Resources and Assistant Professor, Lenoir-Rhyne University

Dr. Brzorad has been studying behavior and energetics of Snowy and Great Egrets at interior marshes and rivers. He will share interesting behaviors of these occasional summer visitors to Forsyth County. Refreshments and socializing at 7:00 p.m., program at 7:30 p.m.

Day Trip to Burke's Garden, Virginia
This valley in the sky can be a great place to find wintering Golden Eagle, Bald Eagle and other raptors. We will carpool at 7:30 a.m. from Thruway Plaza behind Wells Fargo. After a stop for a falconry demonstration in Wytheville, we will proceed to Burke's Garden and leave by mid-afternoon for the 2.5 hour trip home. Bring a lunch or grab a bite at the local general store. Weather likely will be cooler than here.
